Success Story
“Good job, Mr. Scardina!”
Salvatore “Sam” Scardina was admitted to Devlin Manor due to a fall at home, leaving him deconditioned with impaired mobility. After Sam’s hospitalization, he was unable to return to his home where he lived independently due to requiring extensive care. Sam also had other medical complications from his fall, which required assistance from staff with functional mobility and posture to maintain his mobility. After clearance from his doctor to be able to sit up for short periods of time.
Sam and the therapy team developed a plan to reach his goal of improving his mobility on the unit. Sam began getting up into his wheelchair and coming to the therapy gym to use the equipment. Sam initially started standing in the parallel bars and has now progressed to ambulating with a walker. He can get in and out of bed by pivoting and no longer needs staff assistance. Sam plans to return to his home and community at his previous functional level. He continues to have a positive attitude and is motivated to reach his goals. He looks forward to his therapy and gives 110% every day. Best of luck to you Mr. Scardina.
